Photograph of a rehearsal for the Major General’s inspection of the Guards Depot at Caterham, July 1939, in front of the Commandant, Maj Arnold de Lerisson Cazenove. The large amount of Grenadier Guardsmen line up in rows in the parade square at Caterham. The front rows are wearing ceremonial uniform with scarlet tunics and bearskin caps. Behind them are many rows of soldiers in service dress with forage caps and white Slade-Wallace equipment. The soldiers in the first half of the rows have their rifles, with bayonets attached, resting on their left shoulders. Some officers can be seen standing in front of the main mass of men, with trees and depot buildings behind them. From an album of 29 photographs compiled by or presented to Sgt J Biggenden. It covers the period 1927-1951 and includes mainly group images taken at the Guards Depot in Caterham, plus some inspections such as by HM The Queen at Windsor Castle.
