Sent from Gen William Harcourt at Deventen [?] to Lt Gen Colin Campbell when he was a Major of the 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot at Appledoun.
Gen Harcourt informs him that he has given his recommendation for his being given a majority in the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot to the Duke of York.
Letter addresses him as major although commissioned Lieutenant Colonel, 1 Mar 1794.
