Three miniature Nazi propaganda booklets, 1940 (c). The first depicts several towns in Germany. The second, 'Der Fuhrer und die jugend' depicts Hitler meeting young people. The third, 'Fuhrer's kamf in Frankreich' shows Hitler's visit to occupied Paris in June 1940 and the signing of the French surrender at Compeigne. The second and third booklets were distributed as premiums to contributors to the Winterhilfswerk, a fundraising drive conducted through the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt (National Socialist People's Welfare Organization), to provide winter relief. Strings were attached so that the books, known as button books, could be worn to show that an individual had contributed to the war effort. From a collection of documents collected by 313522 Maj F A Fitton, a member of the Civil Affairs Staff Centre (CASC) and a Police Staff Officer with the the Allied Control Commission for Germany (CCG), 1945-1951.
