Description

Letter from Lt Col Standish O’Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, dated Brighton, 11 Jan 1815. O’Grady relates his arrival in Brighton and is somewhat scornful of the number of knighthoods being distributed among officers of the Army. He provides some society gossip on forthcoming marriages and states his intent to go to every social event he can. Typed transcript in separate folder. From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lt Col Standish O’Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These letters include those written whilst serving as a Lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, 1815-1830. With manuscript and typescript transcripts. Associated with the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815).
