From 1916 to 1925 Murphy served in the Indian Army with the 52nd Sikhs Frontier Force and 9th Hodson’s Horse. He was posted to India, France and Egypt, 1916-1920. Murphy eventually attained the rank of Major and retired from the Indian Army, 1924-1925.
