MS letter from Arthur Soppitt to Melvill, reporting his release from Lucknow, the terrible experiences they endured, and asking Melvill's assistance to get him a post in the Quarter-Master General's Department. Associated with the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). From papers of Major-General Sir Peter Melvill, Secretary to the Government of Bombay in the Military and Marine Departments 1840-1859.
