Description
One of five photographs of views of the fortress at Gwalior, 1871-1872. Includes the temple inside the fortress, the entrance and buddhas cut in the rock. From a photograph album compiled by Lt Col (later Maj Gen) Robert Rollo Gillespie (1830-1890) of the 106th Light Infantry, 1868-1877. The regiment served in India before sailing to the United Kingdom through the Suez Canal in 1873, whereupon it was stationed at Parkhurst, Isle of Wight.
