Manuscript letter dated ‘No. 30, Portalegro, 16th September 1811’, from Captain Percival to his Aunt, Mrs Charles Drummond. 4 pages. In this letter Percival reports that the French army is on the march, and may take Cuidad Rodrigo before the Allied army. He also mentions having dined with the ‘Hero of Barossa’ - this is likely a reference to General Thomas Graham, commander of Allied forces at the Battle of Barossa (5 March 1811). From a collection of twenty-three letters of 29 Sep 1810- 11 Jun 1814, written by Lt and Capt George Harvey Percival, Coldstream Guards, to his aunt Mrs Charles Drummond in London from the Peninsula, 1810-1811 and the Low Countries, 1813-1814.
