Description
Manuscript letter, Whitehall 19 Dec 1662. Signed by Charles II to ‘Our Right Trusty and well beloved Henry Lord Herbert of Ragland Lord Lieutenant of Our County of Hereford’. Orders him to raise £70,000 to defray part of the cost of maintaining the militia. From a collection of photographs of 27 documents in Hereford City Library relating to Sir Richard Hopton and his son Sir Edward, knighted in 1604 and 1645 respectively. Associated with the English Civil War (1642-1649).
