Photograph of a group of three soldiers from the Grenadier Guards standing at edge of a pavement in front of a brick building, possibly a guard house, Windsor, March 1864 (or perhaps more likely, 1865). It shows Captain and Adjutant John Julius Johnstone on the left, wearing a frock coat and holding a book into which Sgt Maj Brooks (centre) looks. Sgt Major George Hayes stands on the right holding another book. Two large black birds called ‘Grey Peter’ and ‘Bob’ can be seen on the left of the image. From a photograph album containing 22 copies of images taken by Lt Col Henry William Verschoyle, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. The original photographs were taken between 1860-1864, and consist mainly of group portraits. Grenadier Guards reference number 99.
