Leather service scabbard belonging to a sword made by Wilkinson on a commercial contract for the Queensland Government in 1891. Probably made in the Australian Colonies. Stamped in leather strap, ‘4 QMI 8 / (?)’. Used by the Queensland Mounted Infantry during the Boer War, 1899-1902. The Queensland Mounted Infantry were the first Australian contingent involved in an action in the Boer War, at Sunnyside in 1900.
