Scabbard for kukri, with sharpener and small knife, 1945. Presented to Gen Sir John Francis Stanhope Duke Coleridge GCB CMG DSO by all ranks, 8th Gurkha Rifles, 1945. Wooden, covered with silk and decorated with silver; silver chape, decorated with typically Nepalese leaf designs; stanchion has ring with a 1/4 rupee, 1919, attached. Sharpener and knife have anodised aluminium handles with brass pommel caps. These are contained in a silk sheath of 'camel' colour in a material similar to that used on the scabbard. The whole figure of the Hindu God Hanuman frequently decorates scabbards of presentation kukris, as is the case here.
