Jug or wine ewer, 1863. Silver, made by John S Hunt (ISH), hallmarked London, 1864-1865. Associated with Major George Craster Lambert and 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers). Egg-shaped body divided by two reeded girdles, on stepped, domed foot, with spout and question-mark shaped handle. All decorated with foliage, gadroons, and classical motifs. The promotion referred to in the inscription may be a brevet one.
