Steel scabbard with two brass lockets and suspension rings; belonging to Pattern 1834, 1st Life Guards Officer’s sword, 1840 (c); associated with James Mc N Hogg. Accession Register states it to have been in a gilt, glazed box inscribed, ‘Major General Sir John Nicholson K.C.B. who fell leading the assault on Delhi, Sept 1857’, however, Nicholson was not of the 1st Life Guards nor was he a K.C.B.
