Scabbard for shamshir sword, nd. Possibly belonging to Maharajah Ranjit Singh (1780-1839). Associated with Maj William Stephen Raikes Hodson, Hodson's Horse. Probably made of black lizard skin. Mouthpiece, central locket, and chape of pierced steel, with incised fruit and floral motifs. Two suspension rings. Terminal of chape formed by a pierced projection.
