Typescript copy of a manuscript diary account written by Pte Jay, C Coy 1/5th Bn Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Written on loose sheets it concerns the troopship journey to India on SS Corsican of the 1/5th Bn Buffs (East Kent Regiment), between 29 Oct 1914 and 3 Dec 1914. Includes a description of the journey to Kamptee by rail and his impressions of garrison and barrack life there. Illustrated with sketches. From the papers of Pte William Pryor Jay, C Coy 1/5th Bn Buffs (East Kent Regiment) compiled during service in India and with the Tigris Corps in Mesopotamia, 1915-1916. Pte Jay was killed in action on 15 Feb 1917 in Mesopotamia. Associated with the Battle of Shaik Saad, World War One, Mesopotamia (1914-1918) 1916 and World War One, India (1914-1918).
