Description

Light Infantry Man, 1791 (c). Glass picture made using an etching and stipple engraving after Henry William Bunbury, 1791, stipple engraving by Francois Soiron, published by Thomas Macklin, London, 20 July 1791. The Museum holds the original watercolour for this print. Glass pictures were made by sticking an engraving to a sheet of glass and then carefully rubbing away the paper to leave only the black printed lines. The image was then coloured from the back. They were displayed framed and were popular in Georgian and early Victorian England.
