Worn by the 2/Lt (later Lt Col) Col John Lyon-Maris, Royal Sussex Regiment, seconded to 2nd Bn The Royal Nigeria Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force (RWAFF). With RWAFF collar badges, NR shoulder titles and buttons. Single bronze rank badge to each shoulder strap.
He was the first National Service subaltern to be seconded to the RWAFF but many followed during the 1950s until Nigeria, Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and Gambia became independent.
