Description

Box for King’s Coronation Medal, 2023 Red card box (in two parts) with black synthetic textile lining with medal shaped cut out. Lid marked with CIIR cypher surmounted by a Tudor Crown, ‘CORONATION MEDAL’ below, above ‘ 6 may 2023’. Inside of lid bears Royal Arms and Worcestershire Medal Service makers mark. This Coronation Medal, donated by Buckingham Palace, was one of the first two thousand medals struck to be issued to the members of the Royal Household and London District, for those intimately involved on the day of the Coronation itself. They were manufactured from a separate contract from the 400,000 made for the Armed Forces and other entitled uniformed services. The medal was given by Lt Col (retd) Michael Vernon, Coldstream Guards, the Comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain’s office. This is the only medal that was never issued to anybody. It was kept back for the National Army Museum.
