Original black and white photograph, showing a group of ten uniformed men around a gun, 1889. Inscribed on the reverse ‘Shoeburyness 1889’ and ‘Sgt. Henry James Fuller on left.’ Henry James Fuller was a sergeant with the 3rd Middlesex Artillery Brigade, No 3 Battery, and was the great-grandson of William Fuller and the son of William James Fuller. The donor noted that Henry James Fuller was the only Fuller, apart from Lt William Fuller, to have any kind of military career. From a collection of documents relating to William Fuller who, after discharge to pension from the 55th (Westmorland) Regiment of Foot in 1802, on account of his rheumatism, following 18 years’ service, joined the Royal Veterans, in which he became Quartermaster Lieutenant.
