Mar. 46 / Jap POW Camp Grows its own Food / Part of the British responsibility in French Indo-China was the disarmament of all Japanese troops. Not only has this task been completed, but steps have been taken to ensure that Jap POWs do not have to rely on imported foodstuffs for their sustenance. They have been made to plant and cultivate large areas of land surrounding their camp at Cape Saint Jacques. They have already grown considerable quantities of vegetables and it is expected that they will soon be entirely self-supporting for this commodity. In this camp area there are 38,500 POWs so deployed that they are seen engaged inessential work only in small parties under the watchful eyes of British troops. / SE 6911 The Japs have their own administrative services in the camp.
