Description

Photograph of a print or drawing depicting an officer and a bugler of the Grenadier Guards beside a cannon, probably relating to the Crimean War, 1858-1868 (c). The officer stands looking out at the hilly landscape. He wears his bearskin cap, greatcoat, pouch belt and holds his rifle which rests on his shoulder. The bugle boy lies on the ground sleeping. In the top right hand corner there is a faint depiction of a soldier sitting at a table with his family - perhaps this is where the bugler is dreaming he was. Artist unknown. From an album of 202 photographs in the Grenadier Guards Photograph Archive compiled by or presented to Surgeon Major James John Marjoribanks Wardrop. The album is entitled: ‘Personal Album Surgeon Major Wardrup [sic], The Regiment, 1858-1868’, but covers the period 1854-1872. Mainly officers portraits. Grenadier Guards reference number 2.
