Description

Photograph of young girls from the Guards Home School, Beechanger Court, Caterham, on parade, April 1947. HRH The Princess Elizabeth, Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, had come to the Guards Depot in Caterham for an inspection. She walks past the line of young girls with an officer, her Lady-in-Waiting, Lady Vicary Gibbs, walks behind with another officer. The girls, wearing matching capes and hats stand in front of other people, mainly ladies. Some soldiers in battle dress can be seen at the end of the line, with buildings and trees behind. The school catered for the daughters of men who served in the Brigade of Guards. From an album of 29 photographs compiled by or presented to Sgt J Biggenden. It covers the period 1927-1951 and includes mainly group images taken at the Guards Depot in Caterham, plus some inspections such as by HM The Queen at Windsor Castle.
