Description

Australian Light Horse, possibly of the 4th Light Horse Brigade, escorting German prisoners through a town in Palestine. Photograph from an album of 516 photographs; first of three photograph albums compiled by Brig John Gilbert Browne (b 1879), 1916-1919; associated with 14th (King's) Hussars, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and Egyptian Expeditionary Force. Mixed British and Empire troops can be seen watching them pass by from the terrace in the background. The photo has a hand written caption which says “German prisoners taken through...” however the town’s name is either cut off, or not included in the photograph. Based on the light over dark colour patch, it is quite possibly the 4th Light Horse Brigade. Associated with World War One, Egypt and Palestine (1914-1918).
