Description

Letter from Lt Col Standish O’Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, dated Minore 4 May 1815 (actually dated 1813 but likely a mistake). O’Grady writes from the Headquarters of Cavalry, with Lord Uxbridge and Sir Vivian present and a large concentration of cavalry units. He mentions that a large number of deserters had come over from the French side. O’Grady also relates that he had suffered a riding accident in which his horse was killed but he escaped from with only bruises. He goes on to list a number of regiments within ‘pistol shot’ including the 12th, 16th, 18th, the Scots Greys, Inniskillens and 1st Dragoon Guards. Typed transcript in separate folder. From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lt Col Standish O’Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These letters include those written whilst serving as a Lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, 1815-1830. With manuscript and typescript transcripts. Associated with the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815).
