Photograph of Lt George Colborne Nugent (sitting on Gascoigne’s back) and 2/Lt Ernest Frederick Orby Gascoigne (kneeling on hands and knees) as they either act or play around in a large garden, at Nugent’s family estate at West Harling, Norfolk, 1896 (c). Both are in the 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Nugent is wearing a paper hat and sits on Gascoigne’s back as is riding a horse with one arms outstretched and a cane in his other hand. Gascoigne is the ‘horse’ - both are on top of a large stone planter. From an album of 99 photographs compiled by or presented to Captain (later Brig-Gen) Ernest Frederick Orby Gascoigne. The album is entitled: ‘Personal album E F O Gascoigne. 1st & 3rd Battalions - 1894-1905’, but covers the period 1892-1905; taken in England and Gibraltar.
