Letter from William Riddell Birdwood to his wife Jenny, Pretoria, 14 Jun 1902. States that he expects to be coming on the ‘Oratava’, which was being prepared for Kitchener. Contains medical certificate to the effect that Jenny would profit from a voyage to South Africa to recover from the effects of the death of her mother, Hannah Bromhead (nee Smith), 12 Mar 1902. From a collection of 1414 papers of FM William, Lord Birdwood, relating chiefly to his career in the Indian Army, 1882-1930.
