Description

Pen and ink with wash drawing of 3rd Regiment Native Cavalry including shako, helmet, belt buckle, braiding, jacket, sabre and cuff detail. From ‘Cavalry’, one of three portfolios of uniform and badge illustrations collectively entitled ‘Dress of the Madras Army’, 1846-1852. The portfolio contains lithographic plates produced to illustrate the dress regulations for cavalry regiments of the Madras Army, together with the original drawings inscribed 'Adjutant General's Office, Fort St George' and dated 1846-1852. A former owner of the portfolio, Lt Gen Sir G F MacMunn, has added drawings which he had collected and collated - many of these are annotated by him.
