Letter, 14 December 1915,. From 2/Lt Howard Hicklenton in Gallipoli to his parents in London. Apart from watching an ‘air scrap’ between a French and Turkish plane, ‘There is absolutely nothing to report everything is really very quiet here...[we] are all making the best of a bad job’. Accompanied by one Royal Naval Division and one 8th Army Division Christmas card, and the letter’s envelope, postage free with manuscript inscription ‘On Active Service’, ‘FIELD POST OFFICE [N.L.I ]+ 15 DE15’ circular date stamp, passed by censor no 2566 with red crown square stamp, signed H Hicklenton. From a collection of 54 letters and postcards with accompanying envelopes, 1915-1916. Associated with World War One, Gallipoli, Malta and Egypt.
