Hedley Hunt Calvert entered the 7th Dragoon Guards in 1881 and left the Regiment in 1885. He joined the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars in 1887, retiring as Honorary Colonel in 1909. He returned to the regiment from retirement in 1915. His son Hedley Murray Calvert joined the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars in 1909 and achieved the rank of captain in 1916.
