Description
Transcript letter, 6 Jul 1842. Written by Lt Col Thomas Stephens, 5th Regiment of Foot (Northumberland Fusiliers) to his wife Eleanor in Calcutta. Stephens names the officers on board the Minerva and indicates the movement of the ship out of port. Associated with 1st China War (1839-1842). Stephens survived the battle of Shing Kun Foo, but died a few days later, possibly from cholera.
