Manuscript letter dated ‘No. 4, Lisbon, 27th October 1810’, from Captain Percival to his Aunt, Mrs Charles Drummond. 4 pages. In this letter Percival relates that he is still in Lisbon and that there is very little military news to relate. The two opposing armies remained in place, staring at each other, but doing nothing else. He mentions that an exchange of prisoners had taken place, and returned British prisoners had revealed that the French army was in a deplorable state, with very little in the way of food or other provisions which led to poor morale and desertions. From a collection of twenty-three letters of 29 Sep 1810- 11 Jun 1814, written by Lt and Capt George Harvey Percival, Coldstream Guards, to his aunt Mrs Charles Drummond in London from the Peninsula, 1810-1811 and the Low Countries, 1813-1814.
