Copy of a memorandum from Lord Chelmsford dated 19 December 1878, outlining the military organisation of the four columns on the border with Zululand, and the current situation. A postcript is added by Sir Bartle Frere endorsing Chelmsford’s appointment, dated 21 December 1878. From papers relating to General Charles Knight Pearson and his son Col Robert Frederick Pearson, 1887-1921 (c).
