Handwritten notes taken from ‘Major Gawler’s answer to Sir Hussey Vivian’s reply’ about Gawler’s ‘Crisis at Waterloo’, published in United Services Journal, No 58, part 3, September 1833. Gawler thanks Sir Hussey Vivian for his reply and goes on to explain and confirm his account of the Battle of Waterloo in relation to Vivian’s objections. He notes how their accounts differ, in particularly the significant difference between them regarding the moment at which the success of the Allies was certain beyond a doubt. Gawler mentions Sir Hussey Vivian might have made his objections and drawn conclusions from inference and that he is confident about the accuracy of his account in relation to the movements of the 52nd and 71st regiments, of which Vivian knows ‘nothing’ about. Includes a verbatim account of the 52nd Brigade attached to the last page, Belfast, 9 Aug 1833. Manuscript notes relating to the treatise on the Battle of Waterloo written by Lt Col George Gawler, 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry), 1815. Associated with the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleonic Wars, Waterloo (1815).
