Commonplace book, Miscell MSS Vol 1, 1734-1772. Contains copies of a variety of letters and documents, 1640-1779 (c). Much of the material is of military interest, including some relating to the career of his father, although there are topographical and religious items as well as odd warrants and establishments, the significance of which is not always obvious. Including: 'Report to the King of the State of the Fortifications of Berwick', 1683; letters and papers written by and to his father, March 1708-May 1736, including details of casualties at Longueville and Taniere (1709), campaigns in the Low Countries including correspondence with Cadogan, and papers on the transporting of Dutch troops to England in 1715; account of the rebellion in Tunis 1752; extracts from Mr Faulkener's journals of travel to the Levant and from St John D'Acre to Jerusalem; letters and orders for the attack on Carthagena, March-April 1741; papers relating to Tangiers including a treaty and details of courts martial, 1680-1683; Journal of the Siege of Gibraltar, October 1726-June 1727; correspondence relating to 'Caesar's intrenchments' at Geneva 1763; accounts of Minorca, 1754-1756 and 'Doctor Moore's Remarks on Catalonia', August 1753; accounts of the 'Campaign against the Chiroquees 1761'; 'Directions for taking Possession of Illinois', possibly 1766; chronology of Coote's campaigns in India, 1759-1762; account of the revolution in Bengal, 1762; 'Journal of a March from Trichonopoly to Trivanore and thence back', May-June 1771, and of the expedition against Sanjore and Tanjaour and to the Marawar Countries, 1771-1772.
