Description
Photograph: Gravestone no. 3 A close up shot of a gravestone. The stone's inscription reads: 'In memory of the women and children of H.M. 32nd Regt. who were slaughtered near this spot on the 16th July A.D. 1857'. All round the cross is written: 'This memorial was raised by 20 men of the same Regt. who were passing through Cawnpore on November 21st 1857'. Associated with 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment of Foot. Associated with Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). From an album of 37 photographs taken by a Cawnpore photographer, 1947.
