Description

Photograph of the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) for King Edward VII, Horse Guards Parade, London, 26th June 1903. In the foreground of the image, on horseback, are the King, the Prince of Wales (later King George V), the Duke of Connaught and Prince Christian of Denmark. A vast number of soldiers from the Brigade of Guards can be seen in formal lines behind the King’s party, some mounted and some standing with their rifles on their shoulders. In the background crowds of onlookers can be made out, and those who watch the procession from Horse Guards itself hang Union Jack flags from the windows. From an album of 68 photographs compiled by or presented to Col Maxwell Earle DSO. The album is entitled: ‘Personal Album, M. Earle. South Africa - 1900-1904’, but covers the period 1899-1909. The images and group portraits are mainly taken in England, such as in London, or Aldershot, plus a few taken in South Africa during the Boer War.
