Letter from Lt Henry Clifford of the Rifle Brigade to his father dated standing camp at Bears’ Farm, 3 miles from Water Kloof 2 May 1852. His dilemma regarding Francesca Clifford, whom he has agreed to marry but does not love. In a few days time an attack will be launched against the enemy stronghold at Waterkloof.
