Lantern slide of a sortie from Ladysmith during the siege by British cavalry, 1899-1900. Title states image is of Trumpeter John James Shurlock, 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers, noted for pursuing the retreating Boers at the Battle of Elandslaagte and shooting three of them dead, but it seems to be on the wrong slide, by comparison with -71.
