Description
Letter from Lt Col W A Broome, Indian Staff Corps, Commanding troops in the Uganda Protectorate, ‘Eldoma River’, Sudan, to Arthur Coles, 3 Jun 1898. Maj Coles and Sir Arthur Hardinge wish to postpone Coles’s ‘Indian Contingent...sailing from Bombay, til transport is available’, but the correspondent considers this unwise, as the Sudanese ‘Mutiny is far from being suppressed’. He also advises Coles on what action to take on reaching the Sudan. Hardinge was HM Commissioner and Consul-General in British East Africa Protectorate (1896-1900). From papers associated with Col Arthur Horsman Coles, 1885-1905. From the collection of the former Buffs Regimental Museum.
