Description

Letter from Lt G G P Humphreys, ‘The Staff Officer, Troops in the Uganda Protec[torate]’, Indian Staff Corps, Camp Eldoma Ravine, Sudan, to ‘Major Coles or The Officer Commanding Uganda Rifles’, 3 Jun 1898. The letter reiterates the instruction given in a letter of 3 Jun 1898, from Lt Col Broome, that Coles’s Indian Contingent should be despatched from India to Mombasa. Kabarega is alive and ‘extended operations are about to be taken on the frontier’ with the Sudanese mutineers, so the services of the East African Rifles and Indian Contingent of the British East African Protectorate are required. From papers associated with Col Arthur Horsman Coles, 1885-1905. From the collection of the former Buffs Regimental Museum.
