Letter, 24 Jan 1916. From 2/Lt Howard Hicklenton in Wardan, near Cairo, Egypt, to his parents in London. The battalion is being refitted and is now attached to the 53rd Division, of which Hicklenton disapproves because ‘[they] funked it at Suvla’. He also praises the 29th Division, to which they were attached at Alexandria and Mudros. With accompanying envelope, postage free with manuscript inscription ‘On Active Service’, Field Post Office D 53 circular date stamp, 25 Jan 1916, passed by censor No 2566 with red crown square stamp, signed H Hicklenton. From a collection of 54 letters and postcards with accompanying envelopes, 1915-1916. Associated with World War One, Gallipoli, Malta and Egypt.
