NAM.1990-11-13-1-379
Photograph of a Sergeant or Lance Sergeant of the Australian Light Horse, taken near the Judean Hills around the time of the Megiddo offensive, September 1918. Photograph from an album of 516 photographs; first of three photograph albums compiled by Brig John Gilbert Browne (b 1879), 1916-1919; associated with 14th (King's) Hussars, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and Egyptian Expeditionary Force. This photo is labelled as a photograph of an “Australian trooper, Sep 1918”. He is clearly also a Sergeant, or possibly of the defunct Australian Light Horse rank of “Lance Sergeant” (both ranks wear three downward chevrons). As this photograph is labelled as “Sep 1918” it is clearly taken around the time of the Megiddo offensive, part of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign in which the Australian Light Horse participated. It is therefore likely this photo was taken somewhere near the jumping off line in the Judean Hills northeast of Jaffa or near Nablus. Associated with World War One, Egypt and Palestine (1914-1918).
