From a collection of documents relating to 2/Lt John Starkie Preston, Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment), 1898-1900.
All but four of the items refer to his service during the Boer War and comprise twenty-nine letters to his family written during the campaign and a diary for the period 4 Nov 1899-16 May 1900. Preston died of enteric fever at De Wets-dorp Hospital 27 Jun 1900, and several letters of condolence to his mother are also included.
