Letter from Lt Col Standish O’Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, dated Gournay 14 Dec 1815. In this letter O’Grady complains of an unpleasant march of 12 leagues to his present location. His regiment is to remain in Gournay for a few months and then move again to Combray (Cambrai) where the Army headquarters will be established. He relates that the 7th are now again part of Gen Vivian’s brigade. O’Grady despairs that they have been warned that the regiment may remain in France for five years and that he has been refused an application for leave. He mentions the extent of his debts and that Gen Grant (presumably Maj Gen James Grant) is to release the 7th from his command. Typed transcript in a separate folder.
