Letter, ‘MEF 10.12.1916’, Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, 10 Dec 1916. Letter from a collection written by Felix Tolcher Birdwood (1897-1987), November 1916 to 6 May 1917. Associated with 47th Sikhs, 13th Division, Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, World War One, Mesopotamia (1914-1918). Covers threat posed by ‘Budhoo’ tribesmen, joining up with Brigade on 12th December. ‘In this BEASTLY country there is a race of people known as a whole as Arabs & there is a section of them called Budhoos. A Budhoo is a peculiar creature - he will win your ungrudging admiration by some extraordinary theft from a place - to all appearances unapproachable & yet he is the most loathed & detested creature on the face of the earth. It is he that guards the ‘no man’s land’ on the flank’.
