Description

Shooting medal awarded to Richard Hotchkis, 1st Royal Edinburgh Volunteers, 1803-1804. Gilt metal, with raised fluted rim and suspended by a fixed ornate ring. On the obverse, within the rim, engraved centrally, a shield charged with a representation of the Arms of Edinburgh, the illustration not heraldically correct (a castle triple-towered and embattled, situate on a rock proper). Above the shield, upon a heraldic wreath, a fouled anchor, the Crest of Edinburgh. Flanking the shield and crest, twin sprays of thistles.
