Description

Letter headed ‘page 5 Doncaster 7’ but undated. In an unknown hand but appears to be written by a male using the initial ‘S’, possibly Standish O’Grady. The envelope is marked 1830 and addressed to a Mrs Delancy Barclay (married to Col Delancey Barclay, formerly Aide de Camp to the Duke of York and died in 1826). The intended recipient is a ‘Mary’. It appears to be a letter concerned with the ending of an intimate or romantic relationship; the content is somewhat rambling. It seems likely that the recipient is the widow of Col Barclay, Mary Elizabeth Barclay. With typed transcript. From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lt Col Standish O’Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These letters include those written whilst serving as a Lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, 1815-1830. With manuscript and typescript transcripts.
