Description

'some call us monkey-man'. Pen and ink and coloured pencil five portraits of different soldiers- three in pen and ink and two shaded in with brown and green From a collection of drawings relating to the artist’s military service in Burma 1943 (c)-1945. Six solander boxes of drawings, mainly pen and ink, some pencil, some wash, by Captain ‘Dick’ Conrad Richardson Romyn MC (1915-2007), 9th Jats, World War Two, Far East. Romyn served with D (deception) Force, taking small parties of his men behind the enemy line of advance into dense Burmese jungle, to lay false trails. These confused the Japanese into thinking that the British were crossing the Irrawaddy at a different point.
