Description
The Matabella [sic] War With Col. Whinfields Column, 1896 (c). One page of pen and ink with wash drawings; artist unknown; from an illustrated account of the 2nd Matabele War (1896-1897) on nine sheets of paper, 18 sides. Front: picture 15: caption describes the 7th Hussars’ rescue of the surrounded mounted Infantry, the wounding of Maj Fowler and the pursuit of the Matabele. Verso: picture 16: caption describes casualties and the resumption of the advance, the flanking movement of the artillery and a Maxim under the command of Lt Clarke, Royal Navy, with an escort of Cape Mounted Police.
